Scott Rigell

Edward Scott Rigell (born May 28, 1960 in Titusville , Florida ) is an American politician . From 2011 to 2017 he represented the state of Virginia in the US House of Representatives . In 2016 he did not stand for re-election and therefore left the Congress on January 3, 2017.

Career

Scott Rigell grew up in Titusville and attended Brevard Community College until 1981 . This was followed by studies at Mercer University in Macon ( Georgia ) until 1983 . Between 1978 and 1984 he was a member of the reserves of the United States Marine Corps ; then he worked in the car trade. In 1991 he founded Freedom Automative .

Politically, Rigell became a member of the Republican Party . In the 2010 congressional election , he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the second constituency of Virginia , where he succeeded Glenn Nye on January 3, 2011 , whom he defeated in the election. Since he was re-elected in all subsequent elections, including the one in 2014, he was able to exercise his mandate until January 3, 2017. In 2016 he announced that he did not want to run for office. Riegel was temporarily a member of the Armed Services Committee , the Committee on Science, Space and Technology and the Committee on Internal Security . He was then a member of the House Committee on Appropriations and three of its sub-committees. He was also a member of 29 Congressional Caucuses and the Republican study Committee . Rigell is considered conservative on social issues.

On August 3, 2016, Republican Rigell announced his support for the Libertarian Party candidate , Gary E. Johnson , in the 2016 presidential election . Rigell had already refused to support the candidate of his party Donald Trump in advance. He is the first congressman to officially endorse a libertarian presidential candidate. The Republican Richard L. Hanna had previously expressed his support for Hillary Clinton in order to prevent Trump.

He has four children with his wife Teri.
