Bob Goodlatte

Robert William "Bob" Goodlatte (born September 22, 1952 in Holyoke , Hampden County , Massachusetts ) is a former American politician of the Republican Party . From 1993 to 2019 he represented the center of the State of Virginia in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Bob Goodlatte attended Bates College in Lewiston ( Maine ) until 1974 . After a law degree at Washington and Lee University in Lexington and his admission to the bar in 1977, he began to work in this profession. Between 1977 and 1979 he served on the staff of Congressman M. Caldwell Butler .

In the 1992 election , Goodlatte was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the sixth congressional constituency of Virginia , where he succeeded Jim Olin on January 3, 1993 . He was a member of the Agriculture and Justice Committees and four sub-committees. From 2003 to 2007 he headed the Agriculture Committee and from 2013 to 2019 the Justice Committee. Goodlatte was also a member of 15 caucuses and was also part of the conservative Republican Study Committee . In 2009 he was one of the MPs charged with conducting impeachment proceedings against Federal Judge Samuel B. Kent .

Goodlatte was confirmed in all elections, including 2016. In the 2018 election he did not run again and left the Congress on January 3, 2019. He was followed by his fellow party member Ben Cline .
