Magnus Tate

Magnus Tate (* 1760 in Berkeley County , Colony of Virginia ; †  thirtieth March 1823 in Martinsburg , Virginia ) was an American politician of the Federalist Party and member of the US House of Representatives from Virginia .

Life

Born in what is now West Virginia , Tate studied law and, after being admitted to the bar, worked as a lawyer and in agricultural enterprises. In 1797 he was first a member of the Virginia House of Delegates ( Virginia House of Delegates ).

On May 19, 1798, he was appointed a judge at the Berkeley County District Court. In 1803, 1809 and 1810 he sat again in the House of Representatives of Virginia before he was elected as a candidate of the Federalist Party for a member of the House of Representatives of the United States and in this from March 4, 1815 to March 3, 1817 the interests of the 2nd Congressional electoral district represented by Virginia.

Tate was last sheriff of Berkeley County in 1819 and 1820 .
