Auburn Pridemore

Auburn Lorenzo Pridemore (born June 27, 1837 in Scott County , Virginia , †  May 17, 1900 in Jonesville , Virginia) was an American politician . Between 1877 and 1879 he represented the state of Virginia in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Auburn Pridemore received limited schooling as a child. Later he attended preparatory schools. During the Civil War , he raised an infantry unit that was part of the Confederation Army . In this army he served in various units during the war and rose to the rank of colonel. After the war he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . In 1865 he was elected to the Virginia House of Representatives. Because of the chaos of the war, however, he was unable to take up his mandate. After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1867, he began to work in this profession in Jonesville. He was a member of the Virginia Senate from 1871 to 1875 .

In the congressional election of 1876 Pridemore was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the ninth constituency of his state , where he succeeded William Terry on March 4, 1877 . Until March 3, 1879 he was able to complete a legislative period in Congress . After his time in the US House of Representatives, Pridemore practiced as a lawyer again. He died on May 17, 1900 in Jonesville, where he was also buried.
