Robert Hurt (* 16th June 1969 in New York City ) is an American politician of the Republican Party . From 2011 to 2017 he represented the state of Virginia in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Robert Hurt attended Episcopal High School in Alexandria (Virginia) and then until 1991 the Hampden-Sydney College . After completing a law degree at Mississippi College in Jackson and being admitted to the bar in 1995, he began to work in this profession. In the meantime, he was the assistant prosecutor in Pittsylvania County . At the same time he began a political career. In 2000 and 2001 he was a councilor in Chatham . From 2002 to 2008 he was a member of the Virginia House of Representatives ; between 2008 and 2010 he was a member of the State Senate .

In the 2010 election , Hurt was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fifth congressional constituency of Virginia , where he succeeded the previously defeated Democrat Tom Perriello on January 3, 2011 . He was re-elected in 2012 and 2014 and did not stand again in 2016, so his mandate ended on January 3, 2017. In Congress , he was a member of the Finance Committee and two sub-committees.

Robert Hurt is married and has three children. The family lives in Chatham.
