Thelma Drake
Thelma Day Drake (born November 20, 1949 in Elyria , Ohio ) is an American politician . Between 2005 and 2009 she represented the state of Virginia in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Thelma Drake attended Elyria High School until 1967 . Then she worked in the real estate industry. At the same time, she embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . From 1996 to 2004 she was a member of the Virginia House of Representatives .
In the 2004 congressional election , Drake was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the second constituency of Virginia , where she succeeded Ed Schrock on January 3, 2005 . After being re-elected, she was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until January 3, 2009 . These were determined by the events of the military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan . In 2008 she was defeated by Glenn Nye of the Democratic Party .
Today Thelma Drake heads the Virginia State Department of Rail and Public Transit . She is married and has two grown children.
