The Virginia Commonwealth University (also VCU is called) any State University in Richmond , the capital of the US state of Virginia . With 29,349 (2005) students, it is the second largest university in Virginia after George Mason University . Among other things, it is known for the annual VCU French Film Festival, the largest French film festival in the USA.

history

The university emerged in 1968 from a merger between the Richmond Professional Institute (RPI) and the Medical College of Virginia (MCV) . The history of the MCV goes back to 1838 and that of the RPI to 1917.
