Fosteau Castle

The Fosteau Castle ( French Château du Fosteau ) is a medieval castle in Leers-et-Fosteau in the Belgian municipality of Thuin in Wallonia Hainaut .

The castle was built in the 14th century. After 1380 Wauthier de Semousies received the rule of Fosteau from the Duchess Johanna von Brabant . As a result, the castle fell to the Lords of Zwenne, de Marotte, de Henry and de Jamblines. They added several buildings to the castle. At the end of the 14th century, the castle received the prestigious Knight's Hall ( French Salle des Chevaliers ), one of the most beautiful Gothic halls in Belgium. The French general and later peer of France Honoré-Charles Reille stayed in Fosteau in 1815 on the way to Waterloo . His bedroom can be viewed.
