Honoré (or Henri) Charles-Michel-Joseph, comte Reille (born September 1, 1775 in Antibes , † March 4, 1860 in Paris ) was a French general, Maréchal de France and Peer of France .

Life

Reille fought in 1792 as a sous-lieutenant in the 94 e régiment d'infanterie under Dumouriez and then became adjutant Massénas , whose daughter he later married.

In 1800 he was Commander of Florence and Second Chief of the General Staff in Italy , promoted to Général de brigade in 1803 , commanded the Württemberg contingent in the Austrian War in 1805, fought in the Battle of Jena , the Pułtusk and the Battle of Ostrołęka , as well as from 1806 to 1807 as Napoleon I adjutant in the battle of Friedland .

After the outbreak of the Spanish insurrection , he fought in Catalonia at the end of 1808 , where he took Figueres and Roses under the command of Marshal Gouvion St.-Cyr as part of the VII Army Corps . Together with the Neapolitan Lechi Division , he was entrusted with the renegotiation of Gerona because of the outbreak of war with Austria and handed over the command to siege Gerona to General Verdier . In July 1809 he commanded the Battle of Wagram and returned to the Spanish theater of war the following year. In 1811 he was governor of Navarre , then he commanded Aragon until 1812 , then the army of Portugal and in the Pyrenees against Wellington .

For his services he received the Commander's Cross of the Military Max Joseph Order from the Bavarian King Maximilian I Joseph .

After the restoration of the Bourbon rule, he became inspector of the infantry of the 14th and 15th divisions. After Napoleon's return he came back to his side and commanded the II Army Corps during the reign of the Hundred Days . He led this association during the advance on Brussels under Marshal Ney on June 16 at Quatre-Bras and on June 18 on the left wing in the decisive battle at Waterloo ( Belle Alliance ).

In 1819 he was promoted to peer of France . In 1847 he rose to Maréchal de France and was appointed senator in 1852. He died in Paris on March 4, 1860.

His son was André-Charles-Victor Reille .

His name is entered on the triumphal arch in Paris in the 34th column.
