Hastings is a city in St. Johns County in the US state of Florida with 580 inhabitants (as of 2010).

geography

Hastings is about 25 km southwest of St. Augustine and about 60 km south of Jacksonville .

history

The city was founded in 1909. A railway line was built in 1885 by the Saint Augustine and Palatka Railroad between East Palatka and St. Augustine across the Hastings area. In the 1960s, the section between Hastings and East Palatka was closed, the part to St. Augustine is now operated by the Florida East Coast Railway .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 580 inhabitants were distributed over 312 households. The population density was 341.2 inh / km². 48.1% of the population identified themselves as whites, 48.3% as African American , 0.5% as Indians and 0.3% as Asian Americans . 1.0% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 1.7% to several ethnic groups. 4.5% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under the age of 18 lived in 30.3% of all households and persons aged 65 and over lived in 35.5% of all households. 63.2% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.49 people and the average family size was 3.04 people.

24.2% of the population were younger than 20 years, 22.5% were 20 to 39 years old, 29.4% were 40 to 59 years old, and 23.9% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 42 years. 48.6% of the population were male and 51.4% were female.

The median annual income was $ 26,184, with 26.5% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 100% of the population.
