Sawgrass is a census-designated place (CDP) in St. Johns County in the US state of Florida with 4880 inhabitants (as of 2010).

geography

Sawgrass is located on a barrier island between the Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean on Florida's east coast. The CDP is located around 30 km north of St. Augustine and around 10 km southeast of Jacksonville and is affected by the Florida State Road A1A .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 4880 inhabitants were distributed among 3373 households. The population density was 610 inhabitants / km². 96.1% of the population identified themselves as whites , 0.5% as African American , 0.2% as Indians and 1.4% as Asian Americans . 0.3% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 1.3% to several ethnic groups. 2.6% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under 18 years of age and 43.9% of all households lived in 16.9% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 62.3% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.02 people and the average family size was 2.52 people.

15.4% of the population were younger than 20 years, 13.0% were 20 to 39 years old, 30.3% were 40 to 59 years old, and 41.4% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 56 years. 47.0% of the population were male and 53.0% were female.

The median annual income was $ 86,111, with 5.3% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the first language of 96.62% of the population, 1.86% spoke Spanish and 1.52% had another mother tongue.
