Butler Beach is a census-designated place (CDP) in St. Johns County in the US state of Florida with 4951 inhabitants (as of 2010).

Butler Beach is located on the barrier island of the east coast of Anastasia Island between the Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic . The CDP borders directly on the city of St. Augustine Beach to the north , is about 10 km south of St. Augustine and about 70 km south of Jacksonville and is crossed by Florida State Road A1A .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 4951 inhabitants were divided into 4958 households, most of which are holiday homes used as second homes. The population density was 773.6 inh / km². 97.4% of the population identified themselves as whites , 0.6% as African American , 0.2% as Indians and 0.8% as Asian Americans . 0.2% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 0.8% to several ethnic groups. 2.2% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under the age of 18 lived in 13.7% of all households and persons aged 65 or over lived in 48.0% of all households. 62.1% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.00 people and the average family size was 2.43 people.

12.6% of the population were younger than 20 years old, 13.1% were 20 to 39 years old, 28.6% were 40 to 59 years old, and 45.8% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 58 years. 47.9% of the population were male and 52.1% were female.

The median annual income was $ 53,074, with 5.2% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the first language of 96.74% of the population and 3.26% spoke Spanish .
