Stefan Micheel

Stefan Micheel (born January 14, 1955 in Bochum ) is a German artist. He works in public space between urban and natural space in the areas of action art , concept , street art , photography and video.

Life

Stefan Micheel began his artistic training in 1977/78 as a trainee at the Schauspielhaus Bochum in the painter's hall with the artist and stage painter Heinz Clemens, where he came into contact with stage painting , sculpture and illusionism on the stage. After graduating in 1984 in Design for Visual Communication at the Fachhochschule Dortmund studies followed from 1984 to 1989 at the University of Bochum in art history and philosophy and later at the Technical University of Berlin in astrophysics .

Micheel became known through the artist duo pttred together with Hans Hs Winkler with the urban space installations Goldener Schnitt durch Berlin (1987) and the “ Red Shift ” 1990 as well as ursa in orbit 1993. and the project “statue of liberty” 1996. After the separation of the working group pttred Micheel worked mainly in the field of art in public spaces. This resulted in a series of video works that deal with the reality check in the city and in the natural environment, such as B. Terra Nullus - where the birds fly backwards .

He was involved in memorial graffiti for Rosa Luxemburg on Potsdamer Platz Berlin. In 1999 he was the curator of the exhibition project berg-äther in Italy at the Brenner on the Sattelalm in the hermit's library (pttred). a. the artists Thomas Demand , Wolfgang Müller (Die Tödliche Doris) participated.

In 2010 he curated the West Wall and Shamans with the participating artist Christian Hasucha .
