Eric Becklin

Eric E. Becklin (born April 6, 1940 ) is an American astrophysicist .

Becklin received his Ph.D. from the California Institute of Technology. PhD in physics. He has been Professor of Physics and Astronomy at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) since 1989 . Becklin is the Chief Scientist and Director Designate of the Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA). The Becklin-Neugebauer object (Becklin and Neugebauer 1968) is named after Gerry Neugebauer and him .

In 1975 Becklin was awarded the Newton Lacy Pierce Prize for Astronomy . In 2009 he was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences . For 2017 he was awarded the Henry Norris Russell Lectureship .
