Choccolocco is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Calhoun County in the state of Alabama in the United States . In 2010 about 2800 people lived here.

geography

Choccolocco is located in northeast Alabama in the southern United States. The site is 2 kilometers east of the Mountain Longleaf National Wildlife Refuge and 4 kilometers west of the 1,589 square kilometer Talladega National Forest .

Nearby locations include Anniston (5 km west), Oxford (5 km southwest), Heflin (8 km east), White Plains (9 km north), and Weaver (12 km northwest). The next larger city with 212,000 inhabitants is Birmingham, about 83 kilometers to the west .

history

The place was founded in 1832 and named after a nearby stream. In 1878 a post office was established.

traffic

Alabama State Route 4 , US Highway 78 and US Highway 431 run along the same route about 3 kilometers south of the village . Interstate 20 runs just one kilometer south of this route and runs for 2,470 kilometers from Texas to South Carolina .

Anniston Regional Airport is located about 15 kilometers southwest .
