Bye Bye is a song by the German rapper and singer Cro . The song is the first single from his MTV Unplugged album. It was published on June 26, 2015 and reached number 1 in the official German single charts in the first week of the chart.

background

Bye Bye was written and produced by Cro in 2012, but was never officially released. However, a leaked version of the song appeared on YouTube . On the Juice CD 115 from 2013, Cro contributed this song with a slightly changed second part. On May 4, 2015, Cro gave an MTV Unplugged concert in front of 300 guests in Ludwigsburg's Scala cinema . The Prinzen , Max Herre , Teesy , Haftbefehl , Dajuan and The Orsons took part as guests . Cro had composer Lillo Scrimali rewrite his own beats, suitable for a 22-piece orchestra of strings, brass, percussion, guitar, bass and background singers. Bye Bye was released on June 26, 2015 as the first single from Cro's MTV Unplugged album, which was released on July 3, 2015. The concert premiered on TV on July 3, 2015 on MTV . The free TV premiere of the concert was on July 16, 2015 on ProSieben .

Musical and content

Bye Bye uses a sample of Wiz Khalifa's song No Sleep from the 2011 Rolling Papers album . The lyrics are about a woman and a man who happen to meet on a train. Both find each other pretty and consider whether to address the other person, but in the end do not trust each other and thus maybe miss the love of their life .

“What should I say something knocks me out,
I'm a failure because I don't trust myself,
my head is full of words, but nothing comes out,
and she gets up and gets out and says:
Bye, bye, bye , bye, my love of life,
and yes the two of us will never see each other again, it could
be that you meet twice in life,
but the second time it is simply too late. "

- Refrain, original excerpt

Reviews

Cro's entire MTV unplugged concert, which includes Bye Bye , received mixed reviews from critics. For Anke van de Weyer from 1 Live the song sounds "poppy and like summer". Max Trompeter from the Mittelbayerische Zeitung somewhat misses the individuality of the pieces rewritten by Lillo Scrimali and Cro, but added that “one cannot blame the project for lovelessness […]”. Phillip Kopka from laut.de , on the other hand, misses "auspicious magical moments that the special unplugged atmosphere actually promises". Furthermore, the critic is bothered by the monotony of Cro's songs. Mathias Mauersberger from SWR2 describes the songs on Cros MTV Unplugged album as "catchy, relaxed and fresh", but criticizes the "lack of musical surprises."

Commercial win

Bye Bye already entered the German single charts at number one in the first week . It was after Whatever and Traum , both of which also climbed straight to number 1 in the German single charts, Cro's third number one single in Germany. In Austria the song reached number 2 and Bye Bye rose to position 8 in the Swiss charts in the first week. For more than 400,000 units sold, the song received a platinum record in Germany .
