Johann Georg Zimmermann Medal

The Johann Georg Zimmermann Medal is a prestigious award worth 5,000 euros (as of 2013) for medical professionals in Germany , which has been awarded since 2002 to people who have been particularly committed to fighting cancer. The medal is named after the doctor Johann Georg Zimmermann .

In addition to the Johann Georg Zimmermann Medal, a research award worth 10,000 euros (as of 2013) has been awarded annually since 2002 . From 1972 to 2001 a science award endowed with 30,000 DM and a sponsorship award endowed with 2,000 to 10,000 DM were awarded.

The Johann-Georg-Zimmermann-Medal and other prizes were awarded until 2012 by the Johann-Georg-Zimmermann-Verein, which emerged from a foundation of the Deutsche Hypothekenbank . Since 2013, the Johann Georg Zimmermann Medal and the Johann Georg Zimmermann Prize have been awarded by the MHH plus Foundation, the central support foundation of the Hanover Medical School . Both awards will continue to be donated by Deutsche Hypothekenbank.
