Rolf Kreienberg (born October 27, 1946 in Kaiserslautern ; † May 11, 2021 ) was a German gynecologist and obstetrician .

Live and act

As the son of the doctor Walter Kreienberg , he studied medicine at universities in Mainz and Vienna from 1966 to 1971 . He was a member of the Corps Borussia Halle . In 1971 he passed his state examination in Mainz . He was promoted to Dr. med. doctorate and approved in 1973 .

From 1973 to 1974 Kreienberg did his military service as a medical officer in the German Navy . He then became a research associate at the Institute for Anesthesiology , and from 1975 at the Gynecological Clinic of the University of Mainz. Since 1980 a specialist in gynecology and obstetrics, he was appointed senior physician in 1981 . He completed his habilitation in 1983 and was appointed senior physician in charge and senior physician in the clinic in 1984. A year later he was appointed C2 professor for life . From 1988 to 1989 Kreienberg was acting director of the clinic.

In 1992 he followed the call of Ulm University to the gynecological chair . Until his retirement in 2012, he was director of the University Women's Clinic in Ulm.

From 2008 to 2010 Kreienberg was President of the German Society for Gynecology and Obstetrics and chaired its 58th Congress from September 5 to 8, 2010 in Munich . He was also the associate editor of Onkologie - International Journal of Cancer Research and Treatment , co-editor of The Gynecologist, and a member of the editorial board of Archives of Gynecology and Obstetrics .

Kreienberg's main focus was on gynecological oncology , in particular surgical procedures , chemotherapy and hormone therapy for breast cancer and other gynecological tumors, immunology of gynecological tumors, immune and gene therapy, the importance of tumor markers and prognostic factors.

In 2010 Kreienberg was awarded the Johann Georg Zimmermann Medal , and in 2018 the Karl Heinrich Bauer Medal .

Since May 2012, Rolf Kreienberg was a member of the Presidium of the AWMF ( Working Group of Scientific Medical Societies ) and head of the Standing Commission “Guidelines” of the AWMF; in May 2015 he was elected President of the AWMF. On May 8, 2021, he was confirmed in his office by the AWMF; he passed away three days later.
