Rudiger Hehlmann

Rüdiger Hehlmann (born May 10, 1941 in Halle ) is a German leukemia researcher . He was director of the III. Medical clinic at the University Hospital Mannheim .

Life

Rüdiger Hehlmann studied medicine in Marburg , Freiburg im Breisgau , Edinburgh and Munich . He began his research at the Max Planck Institute for Biochemistry in Munich. In 1970 he went to the USA , where he first worked in New York at the University of Rochester and later at Columbia University . In 1974 he returned to Munich, where he completed his specialist training as an internist . After being appointed professor in 1981, he became full professor of the Mannheim Medical Faculty at Heidelberg University and director of the III. Medical clinic at the University Hospital Mannheim , where he worked until his retirement in 2007.

His research activities and his versatile commitment made him one of the leading leukemia researchers in Europe . He has been chairman of the German CML Study Group since 1982 and founded the Acute and Chronic Leukemia Network in 1999, which coordinates all major study groups in Germany that deal with leukemia diseases. From this, the European European LeukemiaNet developed under his leadership in 2004 . 147 centers from 28 countries work together in this network. Hehlmann is also the spokesperson and coordinator of the Leukemia Competence Network .
