Russian Roulette is the seventh studio album by the German heavy metal band Accept . It was released on RCA Records in March 1986 . Some critics considered it to be the band's last “classic” album, while others noticed the looming breakup of the band.

Origin and style

Like its predecessor, Russian Roulette was recorded in Dieter Dierks' studios in Stommeln , but this time the band produced it themselves. The record was mixed by Michael Wagener . During the recording there were already creative differences in the band. Wolf Hoffmann wanted to pursue the chosen course, but singer Udo Dirkschneider orientated himself on the rougher sound of earlier albums.

reception

The album reached in Germany 5th place - of up Blood of the Nations highest chart entry of the band - in the US space 114. Eduardo Rivadavia of Allmusic .com awarded 2.5 out of five stars. He wrote that the album shows "the once-unstoppable quintet physically exhausted and creatively tapped out, and the inevitable result was a disappointing and unfocused album". Alex Straka from Powermetal.de called the album "the last real classic from Accept", which has "tons of adorable material at the start". In contrast to Metal Heart , the album “turned out to be extremely gloomy and, especially with Russian Roulette and Heaven Is Hell, it offered a side of Accept that had never been seen before. Dark and atmospherically incredibly dense, these metal monsters roll across the battlefield. "
