Stalingrad is the 13th studio album by the German heavy metal band Accept . It was released in early April 2012 on Nuclear Blast and, after Blood of the Nations, the band's second album in a row produced by Andy Sneap .
Origin and style
Musically, the band wanted to keep the basic elements of the successful album Blood of the Nations without repeating themselves. According to Wolf Hoffmann, the band was “one hundred percent well-rehearsed”. In terms of content, Hoffmann was inspired by a documentary about the Stalingrad boiler . He asked himself whether there were other scenes than a dying person "quickly" killing another person, scenes of mutual "help and warmth".
“What happens if there is just one person who dies and needs another person as well? Say: brothers in death. At the last moment we are all the same, brothers. It's a constructed story, and I'm not even sure that it gets that clear. Mark (Tornillo) has definitely tried his best. "
There are no connections to current political events. The album is also not a concept album , although this idea existed at the beginning. First of all, the later title song was finished. They also thought of making Hiroshima or 9/11 a topic, but rejected this as an idea that was difficult to implement. Then, in addition to the song Stalingrad, only Hellfire - which deals with the bombing of Dresden in 1945 - and Never Forget , which has a "vague reference" to 9/11, remained. The Russian national anthem is quoted in the title song . In Hoffmann's opinion, it is “the most beautiful of all national anthems ”.
Versions
In addition to the standard version as CD , the album was also sold as white or red / white vinyl. Both versions included two LPs and the bonus song " Never Forget ". A limited CD version was also available, which, in addition to the bonus song, also contained excerpts from the band's appearances at the Bang Your Head Festival 2011 and the Masters Of Rock Festival 2010 as well as the official videos for the songs " Teutonic Terror " and " Pandemic "from the previous album" Blood of the Nations ".
reception
Marcel Rapp from Powermetal.de spoke of a "very strong plant". “In direct comparison with its predecessor , Stalingrad has become significantly more melodic, but it has not lost any of its heaviness. The pieces come out of the speakers with a punch, look authentic until the last second and cause a Stalingrad-cold shiver on the skin. Ten soon-to-be classics gather here, eager to be truly presented on stage. ”The score was nine and a half out of ten points.
