Sledgehammer is a song by the Barbadian singer Rihanna . It was released on June 27, 2016 as the final credit song of the movie Star Trek Beyond . The song was written in collaboration with Rihanna, Sia and Jesse Shatkin. The music video for Sledgehammer was released on June 30, 2016.

On June 26, 2016, Rihanna indicated on Instagram that she would publish a new song: "Got something for y'all tomorrow" . Two years earlier, Rihanna had tweeted, "You're just another brick and I'm a sledgehammer," hinting that she'd been working on the song since 2014.
The trailer for Star Trek Beyond was released on June 27, 2016. On the same day, the single Sledgehammer was released as the film's end-credit song.
Rihanna later said in an interview that she's been a fan of the Star Trek franchise since childhood. She stated, "This is something that's been a part of me since my childhood, it's never left me, I love Star Trek. It was automatic. I would do anything in terms of music. It's such a big deal not only as a fan , as a musician ... because Star Trek is such a big deal across the globe. "
