Vinzenz Joseph Deycks (born November 30, 1768 in Solingen , † January 12, 1850 in Opladen ) was a German lawyer and notary .

Life

Vinzenz Joseph Deycks was married to Helena Stoffens. From 1782 he worked as a lawyer at the main court in Düsseldorf . In 1793 he became a judicial advisor at the Miselohe Court . He later played a bigger role for Opladen as a lawyer and notary. He was well known and in demand as a legal expert. From 1811 to 1815 he was mayor of Opladen. In this function he managed to ensure a fairer distribution of taxes and war dues. He was also able to prevent looting and major damage by foreign troops from Opladen. After the Congress of Vienna in 1815 he gave up this office again.

His hobby was fruit growing , which - starting from monastery gardens - has been practiced in the “Bergische Obstkammer” around Opladen since the Middle Ages . Deycks promoted its dissemination and further development. He examined the interplay between climate, soil and the flourishing of individual varieties. In 1797 he laid out a model garden near the confluence of the Wiembach into the Wupper , from which he supplied large parts of the Lower Rhine and Westphalia with vines and young trees.
