Reviews

For Dani Fromm from Laut.de , Rihanna reveals vocal weaknesses on her studio album A Girl Like Me , which Sean Paul can cover up in this song. “During the guest appearances, Rihanna's vocal weaknesses become even more evident. [...] Dancehall king Sean Paul finally brings some pressure into play in "Break It Off" ”, said the critic in the context of the album review. In contrast, Albert Ranner from CDstarts.de considers the guest appearance of Sean Paul as "artificial and sterile", the reggae song "dumbs down". Allmusic's David Jeffries gave the song a positive review and wrote: "Even more stunning is the jump [...] to the totally thrilling Break It Off , in which she delivers a serious competition to guest star and dancehall king Sean Paul".
