Talk That Talk (s Viewed. "Make the conversation" ) is the sixth album consisting of Barbados derived R & B - singer Rihanna . It was released on November 18, 2011 in Germany and three days later in the United Kingdom and the United States.

background

On April 8, 2011 it was first announced that Rihanna was working on new recordings again in the studio. As it became known later, the recordings had already started in February 2011. For example, producer Teddy Riley was the first of the entire team to report on the work on the new work - a re-release of the predecessor Loud was suspected .

Two months later, the American radio presenter Ryan Seacrest announced that the new album should be released in autumn 2011. Rihanna herself confirmed a release this fall on July 21. On September 4th, she confirmed via Twitter that there would be no re-release, but a completely new album.

Singles and Promotion

Singles

Confirmatory information about the album's first single was released on September 17th . It was produced by Calvin Harris and is called We Found Love . It was first broadcast on radio stations on September 22, 2011. It was released on CD in Germany on October 21st . Rihanna shot the music video for the single in three days from September 26th to September 28th in the Irish cities of Bangor and Belfast . It was officially released worldwide on October 19th. Back in October, Rihanna tweeted a few lines from a song that couldn't be classified. But as sources later stated, these lyrics should belong to the second single of the album and bear the title You da One . This was produced by Dr. Luke, who has already produced hits for Katy Perry and Kesha , and written by Lukasz Gottwald, Ester Dean , John Hill and Rihanna himself. The song is a mid-tempo number with some choral elements in the chorus. It was first broadcast on radio stations on November 11, 2011, a week before the album was released. On February 20, Birthday Cake was officially released as the fourth single . The release is a remixed version of the song, in collaboration with Chris Brown. The fifth single "Where Have You Been" became famous with a music video shoot for the song.

promotion

The promotion for the new album officially started on September 20, 2011 at 8:00 p.m. German time. A new Rihanna app called "Unlocked" appeared on Rihanna's Facebook page. There are thirteen stations in it, which are automatically activated as soon as a certain number of users has been reached. Behind these “doors” there is exclusive information about the new album - which you can only find out via the social network.

Musical structure

Talk That Talk is made up of a variety of musical genres including hip-hop , R&B , house , dancehall and dubstep , a genre the singer first incorporated on her fourth studio album, Rated R (2009). The opening song You Da One , performed by Dr. Luke is a mid-tempo song with Caribbean influences that is also inspired by dubstep. Where Have You Been , by Dr. Luke and Ester Dean contains elements from the trance genre. The first single, We Found Love , is a house and dance pop song. The title track, Talk That Talk , features rapper Jay-Z , and part of The Notorious BIG's I Got a Story to Tell was sampled. The fifth track, Cockiness (Love It) was produced by Bangladesh and features hip-hop and dancehall influences. The sixth track, Birthday Cake , produced by Da Internz and The-Dream , is an interlude that lasts one minute and 18 seconds. The piece moves between the genres of hip-hop and electronic. As announced by the producer of the song, the song will be released in full at a later date. The seventh track We All Want Love is an acoustic song with different drum beats. The eighth track Drunk On Love was produced by long-time employees StarGate and Ester Dean and has elements of trance beats and synth pop. It contains a sample of the song Intro , which originally comes from the English band The xx . The tenth song, Watch n 'Learn, consists of a hip-hop melody with synth-pop influences. The final track in the Standard Edition, Farewell , is a ballad. The first bonus track of the deluxe edition Red Lipstick is a dubstep song, produced by the English band Chase & Status and The-Dream and co-produced by Rihanna. The album's thirteenth track, Do Ya Thang , is an R&B song co-produced by The-Dream and Rihanna. The last track on the album, Fool in Love, is a mid-tempo song with acoustic guitars.
