Fly is a song by rapper Nicki Minaj in collaboration with singer Rihanna . The song was produced by JR Rotem and Kevin Hissink and written by Kevin Hissink, W. Jordan, Onika Maraj, Jonathan Rotem and Clemm Rishad. It appeared on Nicki Minaj's debut album Pink Friday (2010).

The song was produced by JR Rotem, who previously worked with Britney Spears , Rick Ross and Leona Lewis . In an interview with MTV News , Rotem stated that he only got involved as a producer because he had heard some songs from Minaj's Pink Friday and noticed how "inspiring" her work is. He explained, “We were almost at the end of their project, I came into the studio and I had some songs [for them]. I was very excited about that. When I played the songs, she knew exactly: 'Yes, we need these songs for my album', then she was just as excited as I was. "Minaj heard the demo recording of the song and wanted to sing and rap with Rihanna later . Rotem was also convinced of this and told Minaj: "'That would be great, but getting Rihanna for your recording is easier said than done." I think that speaks for Nicki's star power. I said, 'Yeah, she's definitely the first choice.' ”“ It took a while as Rihanna had to promote her own album and traveled a lot. ”
After recording the Pink Friday Diaries , Minaj wrote about the song on her blog :

This song is a female empowerment song. But then again, its not specific to just women. It speaks about flying, soaring high in the face of every single solitary adversity that comes your way. I speak about how the media has attempted to box me in and how that has made me feel suffocated. After years of being dragged through the mud, I've mustered up the courage to re-define myself. “FLY is one of my favorite songs. I've wanted to work with Rihanna for a long time. I am very proud of what she has achieved; especially since she was born on an island like me :). criticism
The song was praised by most music critics, many described the song as "relaxed". Robbie Daw from the Idolator praised the song: “The Fly produced by J. R. The music video for the song was shot on January 7, 2011, and directed by Sanaa Hamri.
