Beam Me Up Scotty is the third mixtape by rapper Nicki Minaj from Trinidad and Tobago . It was released on April 18, 2009 by Young Money Entertainment and Dirty Money Entertainment. The mixtape includes guest appearances by numerous rappers such as Lil Wayne , Gucci Mane , Busta Rhymes , Bobby Valentino and other Young Money artistssuch as Drake and Jae Millz . Shortly after the release, Minaj - along with other Cash Money / Young Money -discussed her mixtapeon MTV .com's Mixtape Daily .

Beam Me Up Scotty was recorded after Lil 'Wayne became aware of Nicki Minaj while watching Minaj's DVD On The Come Up . Wayne is Minaj's mentor after she rapped on his song Can't Stop, Won't Stop (it samples Can't Stop, Won't Stop by Young Gunz ). Nicki Minaj only recorded the mixtape to increase her fan base. Due to the large list of guest appearances, Nicki Minaj deliberately moves into the "foreground of the record". Nicki Minaj said when touring with Lil Wayne, “It made me hungry. That's what inspired me and the music for Beam Me Up Scotty - The I Am Music Tour . "
Minaj said that Beam Me Up Scotty was focusing on her and her music at a time when she was playing with her image:
“I was OK, but I wasn't focused on the music. I was making pictures and stuff, so people knew me more from my pictures than my music. But with the mix tape Beam Me Up Scotty you have to take me seriously as an artist. I would say that I started my actual career maybe a year earlier. I also sing something instead of just rapping. Now it's official - it's like 'Town Julie Brown'. "

I Get Crazy feat. Lil Wayne charted the American R&B charts with the help of a strong airplay . A promotional music video for the song Itty Bitty Piggy was released to increase its popularity. The music video shows Nicki performing the song live at a club concert as well as excerpts from the Beam Me Up Scotty photo shoot. Go Hard feat. Lil Wayne also gained popularity through a music video directed by Koach K. Rich.

Beam Me Up Scotty has been well received by fans and music critics . MTV's Mixtape Daily voted Beam Me Up Scotty on May 4, 2009 as the best album of the week. They explained, “Yeah, you'll get to hear a love affair with women - Nicki Minaj says she loves girls and has no problem surrounding herself with bad bitches.” Mixtape Daily praised tracks like I Get Crazy (feat. Lil Wayne) , Kill the DJ & Envy . Beam Me Up Scotty helps Nicki Minaj to make a name for herself as an excellent songwriter in a male-dominated genre.
