background

After a major record company lawsuit, Young Money Entertainment announced on August 31, 2009 that Minaj had signed a "360 deal" with the label in which she would retain all of her 360 rights - including merchandising, sponsorship, marketing, touring and publishing. Sessions for the album began in 2009 with a preliminary release in the second quarter of 2010. Minaj stated in an MTV interview that "Married In The Club" will be the first single from the album and will be released in November 2009. The plans for the single were canceled and Minaj stated in an interview with MTV in February 2010 that she had scrapped the previous material and that the recording was starting all over again. Minaj explains: “I now have songs that show who I am, but they are not the portrayal of me as a musical artist. I want to start over and record new songs, but I have my single and it will come out. "

Minaj explains the great importance of the album to her and all women in hip-hop in an interview with V103 Greg Street : “They don't look at other rappers and sign them because they say, 'Your buzz was so crazy and when they did don't make it, then nobody can make it. And I don't think that's happening so I do this for all girls too. I hope that with the success of the album - I think it will be successful - doors will open for all the girls who want to go everywhere. Even as far as I've come now, ”she said.
