Lloyd (2012)

Lloyd (born January 3, 1986 in New Orleans , Louisiana; full name Lloyd Harlin Polite junior ) is an American R&B singer.

biography

Lloyd Polite lost his father at the age of two and therefore grew up in Atlanta with his mother and sister. At the age of ten he was discovered for a band called N-Toon , with whom he released two singles and in 2000 the album Toon Time . But shortly afterwards the band broke up and Lloyd was looking for success as a solo singer.

After it didn't work out at MJM , he got a contract with MCA and the first single Hey Young Girl was already planned. But he was unlucky again, the label was dissolved before it was released and he had to look for a new label again. On the recommendation of LA Reid , he was finally signed by Murder Inc. and recorded the single Southside with Ashanti . It was an immediate success and reached number 24 on the official US charts. The following debut album of the same name even made it to number eleven on the Billboard Hot 200.

In the following years Lloyd worked with many other well-known artists such as Ja Rule and Young Jeezy , his single You with Lil Wayne was very successful , which became a top 10 hit in the USA and also made it into the UK charts. The second album Street Love was released in 2007 and entered the album charts at number two. It achieved gold status.

This time it only took a little more than a year until the third album Lessons in Love . But neither the singles with Ludacris and Lil Wayne nor the album itself could keep up the success of the predecessor, even if the top 10 of the album charts were reached again. Since some songs had been produced that were not selected for the album, Lloyd decided to offer a mixtape called "Lessons in Love 2.0" as a free download from his Myspace page. One of the songs entitled "A Day in the Life" was produced by Irv Gotti . Lloyd said that this track didn't fit the mood of the record, which is why it became a bonus song for the mixtape. Irv Gotti saw this decision as a diss, Lloyd, however, described this reaction in an interview as unnecessary.

In 2009 Lloyd left The Inc´ label and founded Young Goldie Music . As a reason for this decision, he cited that there was too little support from the label. Also under The Inc 'it was not possible for him to develop freely, which he is now striving for. According to their own account, there were too many disagreements between Lloyd and Irv Gotti on a business level. In an interview, Lloyd said that he would learn from the mistakes of The Inc's label bosses and treat his own artists better.

After the label change, Lloyd took the initiative to record songs for another album. One of these songs, called Pusha (featuring Juelz Santana ), produced by the Runners , was promoted by Lloyd on Twitter in August 2009 .
