DJ drama
DJ Drama (born April 22, 1978 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ; actually Tyree Cinque Simmons ) is an American producer and the official DJ of the Grand Hustle label . He is known for his Gangsta Grillz - Mixtape Series known.
Life
Tyree Simmons grew up in Philadelphia. He later moved to Atlanta and studied at Clark Atlanta University . During this time he came into contact with DJing for the first time. After local success with his first works, he came into contact with Lil Jon and, after working with P $ C at TI's taken label Grand Hustle under contract. During this time he also released his first Gangsta Grillz mixtapes, which had great success on the Down South scene. More mixtapes followed, including with Plies , Ludacris , TI , Snoop Dogg and Akon , as well as the Dedication series with Lil Wayne . The second part of it was named one of the ten best works of 2006 by Kelefa Sanneh of the New York Times .
On December 4, 2007, his first album Gangsta Grillz: The Album was released. His second album Gangsta Grillz: The Album II followed in 2009. He was able to position himself at number 26 on the Billboard 200 with both long players.
In between, Gangsta Grillz: Dedication 3 was another sequel to the collaboration with Lil Wayne. Although this is only a mixtape, it was able to place itself in the lower ranks of the US album charts for a few weeks. Something similar was achieved with From the Hut, To the Projects, To the Mansion . This work, published by Wyclef Jean under the pseudonym Toussaint St. Jean and presented by DJ Drama, was referred to as an EP in the liner notes , but consisted of 17 audio tracks, a playing time of almost an hour and many elements that are typical for Mixtapes are. It was able to find itself at number 171 on the Billboard 200 for a week.
Another album followed in 2011 with Third Power . It included the single Oh My , with which he achieved his first chart success on the Billboard Hot 100 .
DJ Drama achieved its best spot on the U.S. album sales list with Quality Street Music in 2012 when it entered at number 15. The successor to this, Quality Street Music 2 , was released in 2016.
