The Pinkprint is the third studio album by US rapper Nicki Minaj . It was released on December 12, 2014 in Germany and worldwide on December 15. The album is a huge contrast to her other albums. Minaj explained that she wanted to get back to her hip-hop through the album .

The album was a worldwide success, but did not reach as high chart positions as its predecessor Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded . At the Grammy Awards in 2016 was The Pink Print in the category Best Rap Album nominated, but lost To Pimp a Butterfly by Kendrick Lamar .

Singles

Pills n Potions

Pills n Potions was released as the debut single on May 21, 2014. The song was a big contrast to their last singles as it wasn't an ordinary pop / rap song, but a quieter song. Minaj announced the song at the Billboard Music Awards 2014 and reached number 24 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 39 in Germany .

Anaconda

The second single, Anaconda, was released on August 4, 2014. The song reached numerous top 10 placements, as well as number 2 in the USA , which was her best chart position in her career.

Only

The first collaboration song was released on October 28, 2014. The song features guest contributions from Drake , Lil Wayne & Chris Brown . The song peaked at number 12 in the US, but didn't hit the charts outside of the US.

Bed of Lies

The collaboration with Skylar Gray was published on November 16, 2014. Minaj sang the song for the first time at the Europe Music Awards 2014 as well as the Ellen DeGeneres Show and the American Music Awards 2014. The song reached number 62 in the US, but became a small hit with Top 10 in the Scandinavian countries -Places.

Truffle butter

The fifth single Truffle Butter (feat. Drake & Lil Wayne) was released a month after the album was released on January 23, 2015. This song was only available as a bonus track for iTunes users before the single was released. The song peaked at number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The Night Is Still Young

This pop song was released on April 12, 2015 in Europe and on April 28, 2015 in the US. Minaj sang the song together with Hey Mama at the 2015 Billboard Music Awards . The song reached number 31 in the USA as the highest position.

Trini Dem Girls

The last single Trini Dem Girls was released on September 1, 2015. The collaboration with Lunchmoney Lewis could not achieve any chart positions worldwide.

The Pinkprint Tour

The Pinkprint Tour started on March 16, 2015 in Europe and ended in early 2016. Minaj confirmed their third tour a week before the album release on December 8, 2014. The tour started in Europe on March 16, 2015. Trey Songz supported the tour and Ester Dean on. The second part of the tour began on July 17th, 2015 in the USA. Rae Sremmurd , Meek Mill , Tinashe & DeJ Loaf sang in the opening act for the tour. After a long break, Nicki Minaj announced three more concerts in Africa at the end of their tour.

reception

In general, The Pinkprint received positive feedback. It got 4 stars out of 5 from AllMusic, the LA Times and Rolling Stones magazine. Billboard magazine said of the album: "her best album to date. Minaj was finally able to out-rap herself and purge issues she's struggled with in private in her most exposed fashion yet."

Many critics praised Minaj for the great insight into her emotional world and for the successful step back to her hip-hop roots.

The Pinkprint also reached number 3 in Rolling Stones magazine's The 40 Best Rap Albums 2014 ranking .
