Rae Sremmurd (pronounced [reɪ ʃrɪmɜrd] ) is an American hip-hop - duo from Atlanta , consisting of the two brothers Swae Lee and Jimmy Slim (actually Khalif and Aaquil Brown).

Band history

The two brothers Swae Lee and Slim Jimmy (actually Khalif and Aaquil Brown) originally come from California and grew up in Tupelo , Mississippi . There they drew attention during their school days as a rapper and entertainer under the name Dem Outta St8 Boyz in a trio with changing partners. In 2010 they took part in a competition in Memphis and came to a show appearance on the television channel BET , which they were able to repeat the following year. They also applied to well-known labels in New York , but without success.

Eventually, producer P-Nasty from Mike Will Made It's team became aware of her through a cousin from Mississippi and brought her to Atlanta . They first appeared when they contributed the party piece We to the mixtape Mike Will Been Trill in 2013 . Mike Will's production team, EarDrummers , reverse read Rae Sremmurd, released the song as a single on his label Made-It Mafia in February of the following year . In May, the two of them released their second single, No Flex Zone !! , It came a little later in the single charts and reached number 36 there. On YouTube , the video also had over 120 million views. With the next single No Type , they even reached the top 20 of the official charts and also reached number 2 on the rap airplay charts and gold status. The video had over 300 million clicks on YouTube by the end of 2015.

At the end of the year Rae Sremmurd finished their debut album SremmLife , which was released in the first week of January 2015. The piece Throw Sum Mo was released beforehand, a collaboration with Nicki Minaj and Young Thug , which also made it into the single charts.

On June 16, 2016, Rae Sremmurd announced that their second album SremmLife 2 will be released on August 12, 2016. On July 7th, 2017 Swae Lee announced the album Sremmlife 3 on HipHop.de at Openair Frauenfeld.
