William Chang Suk Ping

William Chang Suk Ping ( Chinese  張叔平  /  张叔平 , Pinyin Zhāng Shūpíng , Jyutping Zoeng 1 Suk 1 ping 4 ; born November 12, 1953 in Hong Kong ) is a film editor , production designer and costume designer from Hong Kong.

Life

William Cang Suk Ping grew up in Hong Kong as the son of an entrepreneur and became passionate about the film industry as a teenager. His father financed his studies at a film school in Vancouver . In 1976 he returned to Hong Kong and started working in various activities. His work as a costume designer shaped many of Wong Kar-wai's films and made him one of the most famous and successful designers, as well as a production designer and film editor in Hong Kong. He has appeared in all of Kar-wai's films and has worked with Stanley Kwan , Patrick Tam , Kar Mong , Yim Ho and Tsui Hark . In the scene he is considered shy and withdrawn, he rarely gives interviews and rejects various projects that seem “too big” to him. In addition to his work on film, he is also active in the advertising industry.

For his work on the film The Grandmaster , he was nominated for Best Best Costume Design at the 2014 Academy Awards. He has also won numerous film awards, including the Hong Kong Film Award 18 times and the Golden Horse seven times .
