Young Thug (2018)

Young Thug (* 16th August 1991 in Atlanta , Georgia as Jeffery Lamar Williams ) is an American rapper .

Life

Williams was born in Atlanta and grew up with ten siblings. He grew up in the southwestern Sylvan Hills neighborhood of Atlanta. His career as a rapper began in 2011. He recorded the mixtape series I Came from Nothing from 2011 to 2012 . This caught the attention of rapper Gucci Mane , who brought the young artist to his label 1017 Records (distribution: Atlantic Records ) in 2013 . Young Thug's fourth mixtape 1017 Thug was also released there , which was highly praised by Pitchfork , Complex, FACT, Rolling Stone and The Guardian and included in the year-end lists. The song Picacho , which could be heard on the tape, was also found in several leaderboards from 2013.

His breakthrough came in 2014 with the single Stoner , which rose to number 47 on the Billboard Hot 100 . There were some unofficial remixes of the song, including by Wale , Jim Jones , Jadakiss and Trick-Trick , which, however, did not meet with approval from Young Thug. Since then, Young Thug has been working on his debut album Kay , which will be released in 2016.

In 2014 two colloboration mixtapes were released, one with Bloody Jay ( Black Portland ) and one with Gucci Mane ( Young Thugga Mane La Flare ) as well as several digital albums. He had guest parts on chart hits by TI , Tyga , Rich Gang & Rich Homie Quan and Rae Sremmurd & Nicki Minaj . After some speculation about his further career at 1017 Records, including the beef between Lil Wayne , who imitated Young Thug's style on a Disstrack , and Cash Money Records , he moved to 300 Entertainment in mid-2014. Sampler contributions appeared on Mass Appeal Vol. 1 (Mass Appeal Records) and Rich Gang 2 . Robert Christgau called the mixtape Black Portland the fourth best album in 2014.

For a while, Young Thug worked on his debut album, which he wanted to dub Tha Carter VI in reminiscence of Lil Wayne . However, there was a small beef between him and Wayne. Lil Wayne asked his audience at a show to stop supporting Young Thug. Young Thug then discarded the title, renamed the album Barter 6 and brought it out as a mixtape.

Since then, five more mixtapes have been released: Slime Season , Slime Season 2 , I'm Up , Slime Season 3 and Jeffery ; the last three even made it into the US album charts.

On April 27, 2017, Young Thug announced his next album Easy Breezy Beautiful Thugger Girls ( abbreviated EBBTG) on Twitter . At the same time it was announced that Drake is also involved in the musical implementation. On June 9, a tweet was: 16th published . Since there was no information about the release date yet, the fans speculated whether this was the release date. A short time later, on June 14th, a trailer was published on Instagram that confirmed June 16 as the release.

Rap style

Young Thug is a rapper who belongs to the typical southern rap style. Comparable figures are therefore other rappers from this genre such as Future , Lil B and Lil Wayne or Gucci Mane. His style is in typical Southern slang, that is, with a somewhat slurred pronunciation and influences from dancehall and trap . Young Thug also uses sung hooks on auto-tune . As an image he chose that of a D-boy, i.e. a drug dealer.
