Joseph Guillermo "Jim" Jones (born July 15, 1976 in Harlem , New York City ) is an American rapper, who is also known under the names Jimmy Jones and CAPO.

Life

Beginnings

His mother is African American and his father is Puerto Rican. He grew up in Harlem. In Harlem, he also met Cam'ron . They quickly became friends and formed the rap crew The Diplomats in 2000 .

Prior to his career as a rapper, he directed a few videos for other artists. For example Crunk Music from the Diplomats , Oh Boy , Hey Ma and Get 'Em Girls from Cam'ron and some videos from Juelz Santana .

A short time later, his own liqueur brand Sizzurp followed , which has also been sold in Germany since 2007.

During his rap career, he became the A&R director at Warner Music Group. And he's still a director, for example for his own video Certified Gangstas and for Remy Ma, among others. In 2006 his biographical film A Day in the Fast Life was also released.

Career

His first rap performance was on the song Do It Again from Cam'ron's album SDE (2000).

In 2001 he made his "breakthrough" as a rapper when he was on several songs, e.g. B. Ground Zero , rapping on Diplomats' first album Diplomatic Immunity . Three years later he released his solo debut On My Way to Church . It reached number 18 on the Billboard chart in August 2004 and sold over 200,000 copies.

In 2005 he released his second album Harlem: Diary of a Summer , from which the hit Baby Girl was released. In 2006, Jim Jones celebrated his greatest success to date. His piece We Fly High became a hit inside and outside of New York, also because of the phrase "Balllliiinnn '" (to have a good life) which he repeated there very often. The album Hustler's POME eventually reached # 1 on the US rap charts. On December 5, 2006, Jim Jones' Christmas album was released, on which he sampled Christmas carols. The album is 10 songs strong and includes a remix by We Fly High .

Jim Jones recorded another remix of the hit song "We Fly High" with the reggaetón artists Tego Calderón and Don Omar .

On November 3rd, 2007 he released a mixtape called " Harlem's American Gangster ", which was released in February 2008 as a remastered album version. The album features guest contributions by the Byrd Gang , which Jim Jones founded in 2006 and consists of him as well as Mel Matrix, NOE, Freekey Zekey, Chink Santana and Sandman. The first single on the album is called "Love Me No More".

"Beef"

Jim Jones got into beef (conflict) with various rappers such as Mase , Loon and Azealia Banks from Harlem, New York, Jay-Z from Brooklyn, Nas from Queensbridge, French Montana from the Bronx, Kanye West from Chicago (Illinois) and Tru Life from the Lower East Side.

social commitment

In addition to his career, he, like the other Dipset artists, is committed to social causes: He organizes an annual basketball tournament for socially disadvantaged children in Harlem and he supports various foundations such as the Andre Neal Foundation and the Southeast Queens Action Network for Public Schools and the Russell Simmons Hip Hop Summit .
