Trick-Trick (born June 28, 1973 in Detroit ; actually Christian Mathis ) is an American rapper and member of the hip-hop group Goon Sqwad .

Career

His musical interest was aroused early on by his mother, who was the background singer for jazz legend Alberta Adams . Mathis was influenced by genres such as gospel , soul and funk . Influencing artists were Phil Collins and George Clinton , and later hip-hop bands such as Public Enemy , NWA and Run DMC . He got his nickname Trick during his youth.

His career as a rapper began in 1992 when he was signed to the record label Click Boom Records . It was interrupted by a prison sentence. After being charged with murder, Mathis was sentenced to prison, but was later released after proving his innocence.

After his release, he took on the track Booty Bounce as a member of The Goon Squad in 1995 , which became a hit on local radio stations in his hometown of Detroit. More local radio hits followed and Trick-Trick established itself as one of the most respected rappers in the Detroit underground.

After another prison term in 2003/04, Trick-Trick began working on his debut album with a contract with Motown . For the production of The People Vs. he was supported by befriended rappers like Eminem , Jazze Pha , Obie Trice , Miz Karona, Kon Artis , Proof and Diezel. At the end of December 2005 the album was released in the USA and hit the Billboard charts straight away . The first single, Welcome 2 Detroit , entered the German charts in March 2006.

criticism

Trick-Trick received criticism from gay organizations because his album The Villain contains calls for violence up to and including homosexual murder . For example, he calls for the openly lesbian US presenters Ellen DeGeneres and Rosie O'Donnell to be blown up. The Swiss organization Pink Cross successfully prevented the album from being sold in the largest record stores in Switzerland.
