Bang Bang is a song by the British singer Jessie J , the American singer Ariana Grande and the American rapper Nicki Minaj . It was released on July 29, 2014 as the lead single of Jessie J's second studio album, Sweet Talker , and is also included on the deluxe edition of Grande's album My Everything . The song was written and produced by Max Martin and Rickard Göransson.

Bang Bang reached # 1 on the UK Singles Chart and top 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 . In Germany the song reached the top 20. The song was awarded five times platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America . At the 2015 Grammy Awards , the song was nominated in the Best Pop Duo or Group Performance category.

background

Producer Max Martin previously worked with all three artists and produced, among others, Domino by Jessie J, Problem and Break Free by Ariana Grande, and Va Va Voom by Nicki Minaj. Jessie J played a demo of Bang Bang and decided to record that song. Martin informed her that Grande would like to record a verse of the song as well. When Minaj heard the song, she decided to record a part for it as well. Jessie J said in an interview "It was like a real females, come together, empowering, supportive [vibe], and then Nicki jumping on it was like the icing on the cake."

During the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards , Jessie J, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj performed this song on the main show. Bang Bang appeared in Germany on 26 September 2014 Single - CD .

Musical

Bang Bang is a pop and R&B song, with soul and in Minaj's part, with rap influences. The song is written in C minor , the vocal range extends from B ♭ ₃ to G ₅ . The song, composed in four-four time , has a tempo of 150 beats per minute .

criticism

Bang Bang received mostly positive reviews. Caroly Menyes of Music Times called the song "(a) summer hit of 2014" and thinks "(the) song is right at the top of the charts". Digital Spy's Lewis Corner gave the song 5½ stars out of 6 and called it "one of the most electrifying pop anthems of the year". The Entertainment Weekly saw in Bang Bang a "three-way battle" between the interpreters "to see who is the toughest". Complex's Zach Frydenlund praised Jessie J's and Ariana Grande's vocals, but focused more on Nicki Minaj's "concise verse" and wrote, "It's Nicki who really steals the show with her verse."

Commercial win

Bang Bang debuted at number 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 and topped the list at number 3. The song is Jessie J's second, Ariana Grande's fourth and Nicki Minaj's tenth top 10 single in the United States . The song debuted at number 1 in the UK singles chart , making Bang Bang Jessie J's third, Grande's second and Minaj's first number one hit in the UK . In the second week the song fell to number 2. In Germany and Austria, the song was able to place in the top 20, while in Switzerland it made it to the top 25. Bang Bang also reached the top 10 in Australia , Denmark , Canada , New Zealand and the Netherlands .
