Three singles have already been released: Jessie J's debut single Do It Like a Dude , the number one hit Price Tag (feat. BoB ) and Nobody's Perfect - with Price Tag debuting in the US as the first single on the album. In Britain, Who You Are with platinum excellent.

Music genre

Vocally, Jessie J is based on her role models Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey . Through her soulful and powerful singing, Jessie can keep up with the quality and level of her role models. Jessie J sings with her vocal range of five octaves , which includes all octaves between alto and soprano , and shows her ability to sing in the whistle register . Jessie J also uses belting in her singing , which is also used by singers like Christina Aguilera and Patti LaBelle . In some songs, Jessie sings with Melisma and a whistle, as for example Mariah Carey. Since her singing is in the foreground of every song, the album is also counted among the soul and contemporary R&B genre. According to her own statements, Jessie wants to prove with her "crazy" look in Lady Gaga style that a pop singer can also have soul in her singing. Jessie also said that her singing was not artificially edited once.

The album can be characterized by the fact that it combines pop with hip-hop and soul and that Jessie's music is highly recognizable. While she sings, Jessie develops a rap singing, which she underlines with her singing. Many critics saw this quality as an opportunity for a successful career. The diversity of the songs was also praised. Jessie J is one of the few artists in the world who can sing almost every genre of music. For the album, Jessie developed her own stuttering singing and singing style in which she changed her singing tempo. So her singing starts slowly with some songs and gets faster towards the end, or vice versa. Her own singing styles are particularly evident in the acoustic versions of the songs included on the deluxe version of the album. Jessie also speaks to her audience while she sings, which she wants to establish a kind of communication with the audience.

History and content

Jessie J worked on her debut album for six years. After she started at the age of 16 years with the work on the album, she was charged with 18 years as a songwriter of Sony Music contracted. At the age of 22 she finally finished her album and finished it on January 19, 2011. In an interview with the British Daily Star , Jessie J said:

“[...] Something tells me this isn't going to be a come and go story - they're going to stick around, the fans. [...] I think it's the relatable factor. I expose that I'm not a robot, that I am human and I do have bad days. [...] I listen to so many people's albums and feel I don't know them at the end of it. [...] When you listen to my album you really get to know me. [...] For years I've been that little girl watching the BRITs saying: 'I want to win,' and now I'm the girl getting it. [...] I've got to be me and not cater to the small majority that want to bring me down, 'cos then I'll lose my mind. [...] I can only write and sing songs that have been shoes I've walked in. [...] Which is why I like to have a dramatic life, otherwise my album would have been boring. "

“Something tells me this isn't going to be just a come and go story. The fans will just stay. I think that's the connectedness factor. I show everyone that I am not a robot, that I am human and that I have bad days. I listen to so many other people's albums and I feel like at the end of the album I don't know anything about the artist himself. If you listen to my album, you will really get to know me. For years I was that little girl who saw the BRIT Awards and said, 'I want to win.' And now I'm the girl who gets that wish granted. I have to stay and not care about the small minority who want to drag me down, otherwise I'll go mad. I can only write or sing songs that show what I've experienced. That's why I wish for a dramatic life, on the other hand my album would have been pretty boring. "
