The circuit was named after the Italian racing driver Pietro Bordino , who had a fatal accident at the Alessandria Grand Prix in 1928 after running over a stray dog, losing control of his car and falling headlong into the Tanaro River . The race consisted of two qualifying races of eight laps each and a final run of 15 laps. Tazio Nuvolari won the first qualification , the second went to Giovanni Minozzi . In the final, Tazio Nuvolari was able to prevail once more.

For the race, the spectators appeared in droves to see the duel between the three-time Alessandria winner Achille Varzi and Tazio Nuvolari . But before the start of the race, Varzi, like Goffredo Zehender , was excluded from the Grand Prix due to a late registration. The organizers tried to allow Varzi, but the Italian racing association RACI stuck to its decision. Bugatti's attempt to swap Varzi for his team-mate Giovanni Alloatti was also prevented.

In the first qualifying race, twelve drivers were at the start, of which the best five qualify for the final. As expected , Julio Villars , who started from pole position , was soon overtaken by Nuvolari, who won the race ahead of his team-mate Antonio Brivio . All five cars that qualified were Alfa Romeos . After it started raining shortly before the end of the first run, the precipitation became heavier and eventually turned into a thunderstorm. Ten drivers were at the start of which five qualified for the final. The Swiss Horst von Waldthausen started from pole position, but retired after two laps with a technical defect. Giovanni Minozzi took the lead and eventually won too.

Tazio Nuvolari coped best with the unreal weather conditions and clearly won the race.
