Sweet Talker is the third studio album of the British pop musician and rapper Jessie J . It was released on October 13, 2014 worldwide on the labels Lava Records and Island Records . It features guest posts from 2 Chainz , Ariana Grande , Nicki Minaj , De La Soul, and Lindsey Stirling .

Emergence

After the release of her second studio album Alive on September 22, 2013 in Europe, Jessie J announced that there would be a version of the album for the American market that her label said that this album could not be marketed in this area. Then there was a rumor that she would be recording new material with musician Pharrell Williams for the new version of the album. In an interview, she said that she will likely move to the United States to be successful in the market there. Later, Jessie J said that the new version of Alive will be released in 2014. The idea of ​​republishing was later dropped. The project became her third studio album, which she made with Williams, as well as producers such as Max Martin and Ammo.

Singles

The first single, Bang Bang , was released on July 29, 2014. It features guest contributions from rapper Nicki Minaj and singer Ariana Grande . The song is also featured on Grande's second studio album, My Everything . The song was ranked 13th in Germany and 6th in the United States, where it was awarded platinum five times.

Burnin 'Up was released as a second single on September 23, 2014, but could not build on the success of Bang Bang . The song could not place itself in Germany, in the United States it could only place itself at number 86 and stayed in the charts for 6 weeks.

Masterpiece was released as the third single on January 15, 2014 and was ranked 10th in Germany and 9th in Austria and Switzerland. After Price Tag, it is the second single from Jessie J, which made it into the German top 10.

Promotion singles

The songs Ain't Been Done and Personal were released worldwide as promotional single, but the song Sweet Talker was only released in the UK.

Sweet Talker got average reviews. Was criticized z. B. that the songs would sound too "normal". However, the voice of Jessie J was praised because it was again powerful and clear. At Metacritic, however, the album only got 56 out of a possible 100 points. Allmusic as well as The Guardian and Daily Mail gave the album three out of five possible stars. MTV's Joanne Dorken gave the album four stars out of five. She particularly praised the songs Ain't Been Done , Fire , Masterpiece and Sweet Talker .

Cover design

On the cover is Jessie J with her legs spread in front of a gray background. She grabs her head with both hands, her eyes are closed and her head is tilted a little downwards. Next to her is the "Jessie J" logo, and between her legs the words "Sweet Talker". The cover of the deluxe edition differs from that of the standard edition because it is completely black and white. The cover has similarities to the album cover of # 1's by singer Mariah Carey .
