My Everything is the second studio album by the American singer Ariana Grande and was released in Germany on August 22, 2014. The album peaked at number one on the Billboard 200 and was awarded a platinum record by the Recording Industry Association of America . At the 2015 Grammy Awards , the album was nominated in the Best Pop Vocal Album category.
background
“It's an album that I want to do a little bit different. I don't want it to sound like an extension of Yours Truly . I want it to sound like an evolution. I want to explore more sounds and experiment a little bit. I have a bunch of ideas I'm very excited about and a lot of stuff cooking. "
“It's an album that I wanted to do a little bit differently. I don't want it to sound like an extension of Yours Truly . I want it to sound like an evolution. I want to discover more sounds and experiment a little. I have a bunch of ideas that I'm really looking forward to and a lot of cooking. "
Grande's debut studio album, Yours Truly , was released on September 3, 2013 and received critical acclaim. Later that month she said in an interview with Rolling Stone that she was working on her second studio album and that she has already completed two songs. Recording began in October 2013, working with producers on her debut album, including Harmony Samuels, Babyface , The Pascals and Tommy Brown. Grande initially planned to release the album in February 2014. In January 2014, she confirmed that producers Ryan Tedder , Savan Kotecha, Benny Blanco , Key Wane and Max Martin are also involved. In late February, she mentioned that she wanted to name her album after a track she had finished the previous weekend that was honest and made her cry. On March 3, 2014 it was announced that Grande guest musician at Chris Brown's single Do not Be Gone Too Long by his studio album X should be. The piece was originally due to be released on March 25, 2014, but the date had to be postponed because Brown had to serve a prison sentence. On March 17, 2014, Grande announced the delay on Twitter . On the same evening, she published a live stream instead, in which she showed a preview of four new songs from her second album. Two days later it was announced that the first single from Grande's second album, Problem , would be released instead of Don't Be Gone Too Long . Work on the album was completed in late May 2014. On June 28, she confirmed that her new album will be called My Everything and that it will be released on August 25, 2014.
The photos for the packaging of the album were taken on May 27, 2014. The album cover chose Grande because she thought that "every song [...] so much [is] under a motto that I simply wanted a very simple overall cover. With this we could create additional visual themes within each song. "
Publication and promotion
From June 28, 2014, the album could be pre-ordered on Grande's website. Those who pre-ordered it there received exclusive access to her concert stream on August 24, in which she presented songs from the album for the first time.
She also announced her second concert tour, the "Honeymoon Tour", through which she promoted the album. This was also her first world tour, running from February to October 2015 a year later. Her next tour was the “Dangerous Woman Tour” in 2017, and another tour called “Sweetener World Tour”, which is supposed to promote her fourth studio album “Sweetener”, is to follow in 2019.
Singles
Her first single is Problem , which was sung at the Radio Disney Music Awards on April 28, 2014 and went on sale that same evening. The Australian rapper Iggy Azalea appears as a guest musician. The title debuted at number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 with 438,000 units sold in its first week. It is the fourth successful woman’s touring debut in history. In June 2014, the title received platinum from the RIAA and rose to # 2 on the Hot 100.
The second single, Break Free , was released on July 2, 2014. The Russian-German producer of electronic music Zedd appears as a guest musician . Shortly thereafter, Grande released the single Bang Bang together with Jessie J and Nicki Minaj , which is also included on Jessie J's album Sweet Talker . This song reached first place in the UK singles chart, making it Grande's second number one hit in the UK after Problem . On September 30, Grande released the fourth single Love Me Harder , in which she is supported by the Canadian singer The Weeknd .
The fifth single, One Last Time , was released on February 10, 2015.
