Carl Falk (* 17th August 1980 in Stockholm , Sweden as Carl Anthony Falk ) is a Swedish singer , songwriter and music producer . He was able to gain a foothold in the music business for the first time through his work in the “The Location” studios and participation there on albums by Lindsay Lohan and Dannii Minogue , among others . After founding "Kinglet Studios", he wrote songs for Demi Lovato , Madonna and Jason Derulo, among others . In early 2012 he landed with his participation in the track Starships by Nicki Minaj a worldwide commercial success. Between 2018 and 2019 he was part of the team that completed the studio album Tim by the Swedish DJ and producer Avicii, who died in 2018, and was also executive producer of the album.

Youth and musical education

Falk was born in the Swedish capital Stockholm, where he grew up listening to music by U2 , Bon Jovi , Europe , Guns n 'Roses and Alice Cooper, among others . Falk started playing the violin at the age of four. Later he also learned to play drums, guitar, piano and bass. After graduating from high school, he began studying at Adolf Fredrik's Music School in Stockholm. Then in 2002 he became part of “The Location”, a new production and record company founded by former “Cheiron Studio” members Max Martin , Kristian Lundin, Andreas Carlsson and Jake Schulz.

Songwriting career

On "The Location" he made his debut producing the debut album by American actress and singer Lindsay Lohan Speak , which was released in 2004. It was released in 2004 along with the song Disconnected , which he wrote. The following year he worked with the Australian singer Dannii Minogue on her greatest hits album The Hits & Beyond , for which her old songs were remixed and remixed . In parallel he was working on the debut album of Australian actress Stephanie McIntosh and in the production of the song Whatever Will Be for Vanessa Hudgens debut album V involved.

In 2007 he left “The Location” to set up his own studio “Falk Studio”. It was there that the recordings of the self-titled, second studio album by the French-Canadian pop singer Marilou took place. In April 2010 they moved with the Swedish DJ and producer Steve Angello , who was still part of the Swedish House Mafia at the time, to Los Angeles for a short time, where Yakoub owned a house. After running the "Kinglet Studios" there for the time being, they returned to Sweden after a while.

In 2011 parts of the debut studio album Up All Night by the English-Irish boy group One Direction were recorded. Falk and Yacoub were sometimes involved in the creation of What Makes You Beautiful , One Thing and I Wish . Together with Angello and Yacoub he produced the song Don't Hold Your Breath for Nicole Scherzinger's debut album Killer Love . The song topped the UK singles chart. They also produced the song Troublemaker as a trio for Taio Cruz 's studio album TY.O , with which they achieved another international success. The song World in Our Hands , also included on the album and written by Falk and Yacoub, was used by the German television broadcaster ZDF as the anthem for the 2012 Summer Olympics , after which it sold around half a million times in Germany alone. In the same year he wrote the song Starships , which was interpreted by the Trinidadian and Tobago musician Nicki Minaj , together with Wayne Hector and Bilal Hajji, with whom he has already worked several times, and RedOne . The song developed into a worldwide success and set a new record with a total of 21 chart weeks in the top 10 US singles charts. He later wrote the song Pound the Alarm for her .

In 2012, Carl Falk was listed as number 4 of the 100 most successful songwriters of the year by UK business newspaper Music Week , based on the 100 best-selling singles of the year in the UK. He also received an ASCAP award in the category of most played songs of 2012 for the songs Starships and What Makes You Beautiful . In the same year 2012, the Swedish songwriter and producer duo Kristoffer Fogelmark and Albin Nedler joined Kinglet Studios. Fogelmark was then increasingly used as a background singer. Between May and August 2012 they jointly produced the second studio album by One Direction Take Me Home . Also there was the worldwide hit Live While We're Young .

In 2013 Falk wrote the songs Shouldn't Come Back and Really Don't Care for their studio album Demi together with Demi Lovato . In the same year he also wrote and produced the song Rest Of Our Life for Jason Derulo for his album Tattoos and was involved in Tiësto's Red Lights . In December 2013, the American boy band Midnight Red released a self-titled EP, to which Falk and his team contributed a song.

In spring 2014 Avicii , Wyclef Jean and Carlos Santana presented the Fifa World Cup anthem Dar Um Jeito (We Will Find a Way), which was written and produced with him . After working with Cher Lloyd , The Fray and The Vamps , among others, later in the year , he achieved worldwide success in the winter of 2014/2015 with his participation in the song One Last Time by Ariana Grande . Sometimes the song reached number 13 on the US singles charts. He was supported in songwriting by the French DJ and producer David Guetta , with whom he also wrote the David Guetta single of the same name for his studio album Nothing but the Beat 2.0 .

In 2015 Falk wrote the songs Lost & Found for Ellie Goulding's album Delirium , Rest Your Love for The Vamps Wake Up and Your Type for Carly Rae Jepsen's album E-Mo-Tion . He also intensified his collaboration with the Swedish producer Avicii. After they contributed the songs Devil Play , Borrowed Time and Addicted to Madonna's album Rebel Heart , they wrote together the songs Broken Arrows and Sunset Jesus for Avicii's second studio album Stories . He produced a pop version of his five-time platinum song Die a Happy Man for US country musician Thomas Rhett .

In 2016 he was part of the technical department for the production of Bon Jovi's studio album This House Is Not for Sale as well as the overall creation of Olly Murs' album 24 Hrs . He also supported Avicii in the following year on his self-titled EP and contributed several songs to David Guetta's seventh studio album 7 . He and his team also took over the entire production of the studio album Youngblood by 5 Seconds of Summer .

In March 2018, he worked with Avicii on several songs for his third studio album. After he was found dead in April 2018, the tracks were supposed to be ready for posthumous release. With Nedler he formed one of the teams that was involved in a total of 3 songs on the album Tim . One of the results was the song SOS with Aloe Blacc , which was released as the first posthumous single in April 2019. The album along with the other two of his followed in June 2019.

Career with a pilot

In 1999, Falk became part of the band Pilot , consisting of himself, Carl Björsell, Didrik Thott and Sebastian Thott, with whom he performs worldwide. Sometimes they played at the Swedish princess ' birthday party and Microsoft co- founder Bill Gates' wedding . Stylistically, they are based on the sound of U2 and Hanson .
