Carly Rae Jepsen (born November 21, 1985 in Mission , British Columbia ), also known by her acronym CRJ , is a Canadian singer-songwriter . In the summer of 2007 she reached third place in the fifth season of Canadian Idol and then started a solo career. She achieved international fame in 2012 with the single Call Me Maybe .

life and career

Jepsen attended the Canadian College of Performing Arts in Victoria BC before attending Canadian Idol . After the Canadian Idol tour, she returned to British Columbia, where she focused on songwriting and recording. Because of their published demo recordings , Jepsen signed a contract with Simkin Artist Management and Dexter Entertainment. She then signed a recording contract with the music label Fontana / MapleMusic and worked with producer and songwriter Ryan Stewart. She is currently under contract with Scooter Braun, who is also the manager of Justin Bieber .

Jepsen was in a committed relationship with singer-songwriter Matthew Koma from August 2012 to March 2015 .

Tug of War (2008-2011)

On June 16, 2008, Jepsen's debut single Sunshine on My Shoulders , a cover version of the song by John Denver, was released . On June 18, 2008 she released two songs on Myspace, Bucket and Heavy Lifting . On September 30, 2008, their debut album Tug of War was released , from which four songs were released as singles. The first single Call Me Maybe was released on September 19, 2011, but only reached number 1 in the Canadian single charts in January 2012 . With over 320,000 copies sold in Canada, the single went four times platinum . In the Netherlands the song reached number two in the single charts. Call Me Maybe reached number one on the charts in the Danish, British, Finnish, Irish, Australian, New Zealand, Polish, Scottish and US singles charts. The song reached number three in the German charts. In February 2012, Jepsen signed contracts with Interscope and Schoolboy Records in Los Angeles . On June 20, 2012, she released the song Good Time with Owl City .

Their second studio album, Kiss , was released on September 14, 2012 in Germany . The first single from the album was This Kiss and was released on September 10th. On November 25, 2012, could music video for the single release Curiosity on some internet - video portals are considered. However, the video was not officially published because it was too "sexy" for Jepsen's target group . Tonight I'm Getting Over You is the fourth single from Kiss and was released on January 21, 2013. Jepsen also worked on a single from A Friend in London .

On May 23, 2013, her single Take a Picture was released , which she sang live for the first time on American Idol . Their fans could vote on specials for the song and the performance beforehand.
