On June 20, 2012 he released the single "Good Time" on his SoundCloud account. The song was released on iTunes on June 26, 2012. "Good Time" was written by Matt Thiessen, Brian Lee and Young themselves. On August 23, 2012, the song became available in the UK as a download on iTunes from Owl City's album The Midsummer Station, ahead of its official single release . An acoustic version of the song was released on Owl City's The Midsummer Station - Acoustic EP in 2013.

criticism

The song received positive reviews from critics, including Billboard: It only makes sense that it joined Jepsen ... [on] a track that could become a radio station for the rest of the summer and Entertainment Weekly: " Good Time ”is easier than a frozen margarita in a tiki bar on the beach. On his website, The Re-View, British critic Nick Bassett described the song as an uplifting pop duet that will definitely ensure that neither artist has to settle for a one-hit wonder day.

Slate's Forrest Wickman also called it a "worthy successor" to "Call Me Maybe". He pointed out how "the song begins with a familiar story and then infiltrates it by removing everything that is not pure." Like Kesha in "TiK ToK", the singer starts the song with a song from Prince in his head after a hard night of partying. In contrast, according to Wickman, he was "on the right side of the bed", not hung up and going out the next evening. "If a children's choir is thrown in at the end, it's a little free, but in this healthy song why not," he concludes. "Good Time" is a guilty delight, called the song "mediocre".

Chart performance

In the US, the song debuted at number 32 on the US Pop Songs chart and at number 18 on the Billboard Hot 100 for the week of July 4th. It reached number eight a few weeks later. The song is the second to make the top ten on the charts for both artists. Owl City's first top ten single since "Fireflies" and Carly Rae Jepsen's first top ten single since "Call Me Maybe" make Jepsen one of the few artists in history to have two top ten songs in the same week . As of August 29, 2012, it sold one million in the United States and was awarded double platinum by the RIAA. In 2012, 2,249,000 copies were sold in the United States.

It ranked first in Canada and New Zealand, becoming Owl City's first number one and Jepsen's second in both countries. The song debuted at number 17 on the UK Singles Chart on August 26, 2012. The song was released prior to the single as the song was available from Owl City's album The Midsummer Station. In the following week it rose to number 5 and since 2010 "Fireflies" became the first top 5 hit in Owl City.

Music video

background

The music video was directed by Declan Whitebloom and premiered on Vevo. Young tweeted a link to the video on July 24, 2012. Most of the video was shot on Silver Mine Lake in Harriman State Park in New York and the rest in New York City. The video includes product placements from Fiat, Casio and Beats Electronics.

Synopsis

The music video begins with Jepsen waiting outside an apartment at her Fiat 500 when her friends come out and join her. You then drive away from the haze of New York City. During the drive, the video alternates between shots of Jepsen and Young with his own group in a Mercury Cougar as they drive down a forest road. They eventually meet in a small cabin-like building and drink slushies. As Jepsen's verse begins, she is shown walking through the forest while other footage of the rest of the group is walking and coming to a campsite. As soon as the hook and chorus start, you can see Young by a lake, along with other shots of Jepsen and the rest of the group. When the sky gets darker they dance around a campfire. The video ends with footage of the group dancing and partying through the night.
