Little Big is a Russian Rave - band that in 2013 in St. Petersburg was founded. It consists of Ilya Ilich Prusikin, Sergey Gokk Makarov, Sonya Tayurskaya and Anton Boo Lissov.

history

The band debuted on April 1, 2013 and released their first music video Every Day I'm Drinking . She made her first public appearance on July 2, 2013 in Klub A2, as a supporting act for the band Die Antwoord . The first album With Russia from Love was released on March 17th, 2014.

The band has already toured Europe and Russia.

In an interview with UTV, singer Ilya Prusikin commented on this success:

“This music is really in demand. We didn't invest a penny , just shot a video and we became known in Europe "

On December 19, 2015, the band released their second album Funeral Rave . It peaked at number 8 on the Russian iTunes charts for week 52 of 2015.

The band has their own music label called “The Little Big Family”, which also includes artists like The Hatters (since 2016), Tatarka (since 2016), Хлеб (since 2017) and Lizer (since 2018).

In 2018 Olympia Ivleva left the band.

The song Skibidi , which was released on October 5, 2018, made it to number 1 in the Russian charts for two weeks and made the Skibidi Challenge, in which fans published their own dance videos for the song, an international internet phenomenon .

The band was supposed to represent Russia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 with the song "Uno" in Rotterdam , which was canceled on March 18, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic .

In 2020 Jurij Muzychenko from The Hatters and Florida Chanturia from Leningrad joined the band for the planned Eurovision appearance for Russia.

style

The band calls themselves a satirical type of collaboration that focuses on the music , visuals and the show . Little Big scoffs, draws attention to things artistically in her works and clings to various national stereotypes about Russia. All videos are filmed by co-founder of the band Alina Pasok. The band shoots and produces all of their music videos themselves.

Due to the fact that the first concert was held in the opening act of Die Antwoord , the band was immediately called "The Russian Die Antwoord" and is often compared to this band. Vice describes the band as "a Russian mentally ill patient who answers Die Antwoord". Other reviewers point out that Little Big has its own identity and style, but also brings listeners closer to Russian folk songs and Russian culture.

Frontman Ilya Prusikin himself explained the purpose of the band in an interview with Noisey as follows:

“We just want to show people that they are in control of their lives. Countries and governments are not so important as a person's belief that they can deal with something and do what they want "

The band states that they were influenced by a wide variety of musicians. These include Cannibal Corpse , Nirvana , Red Hot Chili Peppers , Rammstein and The Prodigy , Mozart and Antonio Vivaldi .

Awards

On May 21, 2016, the videos for the songs Give Me Your Money and Big Dick were recognized at the Berlin Music Video Awards 2016. Big Dick won first place in the “Most Trashy” category and Give Me Your Money won third place in the “Best Performer” category. Big Dick, with over 52 million views, is called a video with lots of sexual images and overtones.
