Polina Sergejewna Gagarina ( Russian Полина Сергеевна Гагарина ; born March 27, 1987 in Moscow , Russian SFSR , Soviet Union ) is a Russian singer . She represented Russia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 with the song A Million Voices and came in second.

life and career

Gagarina spent the first years of her life in Greece, where she graduated from the first grade of secondary school. Her mother, a professional dancer, signed a contract as a ballet dancer in the play Alsos in Athens in 1991 . In the three years she lived in Athens, Gagarina learned the Greek language and moved back to Russia in 1993 when her father died of a heart attack there. In the following period, she often commuted between Moscow and Athens because of her mother's career. In Saratov she sang a cover of Whitney Houston and was accepted into the local music school. After leaving music school at the age of 14, she began studying pop-jazz at the State Music Academy. After the second course in 2003, her teacher Natalia Andrijanowa invited her to participate in the TV show Fabrika Svyosd . She cooperated with the producer Maxim Fadejew during the casting show, but decided against further cooperation after the victory.

In August 2007, Polina Gagarina married the Russian actor Pyotr Kislov, with whom she had a son, who was born in October 2007. After the divorce in 2010, she married the photographer Dmitri Ischakow in September 2014.

She was selected internally by the state television broadcaster Perwy kanal to represent Russia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 in Vienna . She reached second place with the power ballad A Million Voices . Also in 2015, she contributed the song Der Kuckuck ( Russian Кукушка ), a cover by Viktor Robertowitsch Zoi , to the soundtrack of the film Red Sniper - Die Todesschützin .

Since January 2019 she has been the first Russian singer to take part in the Chinese show Singer 2019 .
