Clean Bandit is a British electro pop band . According to the sources, she has sold more than 30.9 million records to date, over eleven million of them in her home country alone. The most successful release of Clean Bandit is the single Rather Be from 2014 with over 8.3 million units sold, with which the band achieved international fame.
Band history
The musicians met while studying at Jesus College in Cambridge . In 2008 they joined forces to form Clean Bandit , the original five members later becoming a quartet. The band name is the literal translation of a Russian expression (чистый бандит, Transliteration chistyj bandit ), which they discovered during a stay in Russia and which means something like "absolute bastard". However, Patterson and Chatto corrected in an interview that it is specifically about the feminine form of the expression (чистая бандитка, transliteration chistaja banditka) and is intended rather lovingly, which is why "Naughty Rascal" is a more appropriate expression. You had your first successes in Cambridge , especially as the opening act for other artists. The band members come from classical music, which they incorporate into their electro pop; but they also give purely classical concerts. On the other hand, they established a successful dance night event with renowned guest musicians in Cambridge with the National Rail Disco .
Despite offers from Warner Music and Mercury Records , they decided to produce their own releases, including videos, and founded their own company, Incredible Industries . In October 2010 they published Mozart's House and, a little later, Telephone Banking on YouTube and, above all, the associated artistic videos attracted a lot of attention. Stations like BBC Radio 1 and Channel 4 started playing their music. The musical breakthrough came at the end of 2012 - Clean Bandit had moved to London in the meantime - with the EP A + E , the title song of which brought its first commercial success and reached number one in the iTunes electronic charts . With the single release by Mozart's House in April 2013, they then had a top 20 hit in the UK charts . In February 2014 her single Rather Be reached number 1 in the British, German and Austrian singles charts. Jess Glynne contributed the vocals and actress Haruka Abe played the lead role in the music video . The song was also able to place itself well in other European hit lists. In England the song won two Ivor Novello Awards for Most Played Song of the Year and Best Contemporary Song . It also received a Grammy Award in the Dance category.
The album New Eyes was released on May 30, 2014. With the release of the special edition of the album in November 2014, Real Love was also released, a renewed collaboration with Jess Glynne.
On October 19, 2016, Neil Amin-Smith announced via social media that he had left the band. Clean Bandit remains with three members. Two days later they released the single Rockabye , on which they collaborated with British singer Anne-Marie and dancehall singer Sean Paul . Like her hit single Rather Be , the song reached the top of the charts in several countries.
In May 2018 the band released the single Solo together with the singer Demi Lovato . It reached number 1 on the charts in several countries. On November 30th, 2018 her second studio album What Is Love was released , which contains all 7 singles that have been released since the last album.
