The Jesus College of Cambridge University is 1496 by converting one of John Alcock , the then Bishop of Ely emerged, founded nunnery. It was said that this monastery attracted attention because of its excessive freedom of movement.

The full name of the college is "The College of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Saint John the Evangelist and the glorious Virgin Saint Radegund, near Cambridge" (English for College of the Blessed Virgin Mary , the Evangelist John and the Venerable Blessed Virgin Radegundis near Cambridge ) .

Its common name Jesus College derives from its monastery church, the Jesus Chapel , which was built from 1157 to 1245 as the Benedictine convent of St. Mary and St. Radegund and is the oldest building of the university that is still in use.
