The Churchill College is a college of the University of Cambridge . It was founded in 1958 in memory of Winston Churchill .
Winston Churchill was impressed with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and wanted a similar institution in the UK. His plans turned to the more humble proposal to establish a science and technology college at Cambridge University. Churchill wanted a mix with non-academics to ensure a well-rounded education and environment for students and professors. The primary focus on science and engineering is expressed to this day in the principle of wanting to achieve a 3 to 1 ratio of technology to arts in the student body.
Margaret Thatcher's private archive has been kept in the college's archives since 2015 .
