Mabel (* 20th February 1996 as Mabel McVey in Malaga , Spain ) is a British - Swedish R & B - singer and songwriter .

biography

Mabel McVey is a daughter of the Swedish singer Neneh Cherry and the British music producer Cameron McVey and came into contact with music at an early age. She was born in Málaga and grew up in Stockholm . She learned to play the piano in her childhood and studied music production and music theory , after graduating she moved to London .

In September 2015, Mabel released her first single Know Me Better on the SoundCloud platform . She later signed a recording deal and appeared on the Sound of 2016 list . She achieved her first hit with the single Finders Keepers released in March 2017 in collaboration with rapper Kojo Funds , which reached the top 10 of the British music charts and later went platinum . In May she released her first EP Bedroom and in October the mixtape Ivy to Roses . At the beginning of 2018 she achieved another top 20 success with the Single Fine Line . The song was recorded with the rapper Not3s , Mabel worked with him the previous year and was involved as a songwriter on his hit My Lover .

Mabel had her big international breakthrough at the beginning of 2019 with the song Don't Call Me Up . He reached the top 10 in numerous countries, including in her native Sweden, and also made it into the US singles charts . In England, it brought her her highest ranking with 3rd place and her third platinum award. The single Mad Love was able to build on the success and with the two songs her debut album High Expectations also made it to number 3 in the UK and in numerous other countries, including the USA again, in the official charts in the summer .

In early 2020, Mabel received the award for best British solo artist at the Brit Awards .
